2 Races and a cookout (9/19)

Let’s finish the season off with a bang!

This Saturday, 9/19, we will have 2 races:

1. 10am – Irish Eyes Cup (take two). There will be the standard 9am virtual skipper’s meeting and then we will head for the course.

2. Approximately 15 minutes after the Irish Eyes Cup: The Hoosier Daddy Race. Turns out that only 3 points separate the top of Cruise 1 and the top of Cruise 2 is tied. This race will likely determine the season results!

I’ll try to make each race about an hour long.

3. After the races, we can all gather at 2pm at the end of the 200 dock (near the fuel dock and CG station) to have an end of season cookout and announce the results for both the Irish Eyes Cup as well as the season.

We will provide burgers and brats and toppings as well as a keg of beer from Ironwood in Valparaiso. Please fill the tip jar! They are long time friends of the Cruiser Class and we really appreciate their support.

Please bring a side to share (or not share….. covid) and BYOB if you want something other than beer.

We will all wear masks as much as possible and practice social distancing. We will also limit the number of people around the grills during preparation.

Please let me know if you intend to attend the cookout (and how many) by Thursday so we can properly plan food.

It’s been a great season and I look forward to seeing all of you there!

Eastward Ho this Friday 8/28

This Friday and Saturday are Eastward Ho and the race back home. The format has changed slightly this year from what he have done previously:

Friday 8/28 – 6pm first start. This will be a standard race with our normal 2 division start. We’ll finish in New Buffalo and likely gather for a socially distanced post-race cocktail in the pavilion there. 1 boat from NB has already committed to sail down Friday to race back with us and there may be 2 more joining us.

Saturday 8/29 – Race with the New Buffalo Sail Fleet. First start is at 10am MC time/11am NB time. Similar races to ours. They set a couple buoys and we will race around those.

Saturday 8/29 – Race home from NB. This will be a pursuit race. Each boat will get its own start time based on PHRF. Slowest boat according to PHRF starts first. The first boat will start at 2pm MC time.

As usual, I will send out more detailed information the night before the race. Please let me know if you are planning to participate.

Thoughts on Eastward Ho?

I’m trying to gauge the interest in doing an Eastward Ho race this year to make up for the canceled Solstice Race.

The transient slips have been installed in NB and are available again.

I have 2 thoughts on the format:

1. We do what we have done traditionally. Race to New Buffalo Saturday afternoon. Gather on the dock (masks and social distancing…) that evening. Race home Sunday morning.

2. NB is doing some cruiser class style racing this year (that was the flier I sent out previously). We could race over Friday evening. Perhaps gather for a socially distant cocktail. Race with them Saturday morning. Cruise home after that (or stay if you want to hang out in NB). Their Saturday morning races start at 11am EDT and conclude by 1pm.

Possible weekends this would work are 8/15, 8/29, or 9/12.

Please let me know your thoughts and I’ll get something on the calendar.
