Cruise Home from Gary Airshow

Let’s race to the Gary Airshow!
Plan is to race to the Gary Airshow, watch the USAF Thunderbirds, anchor out or grab a slip in Hammond, and then cruise home the next day.
Schedule:
- 9am skippers meeting @ 400 dock pavillion
- 10am start @ mark 0
- Channel 71 for course changes and starting sequences
- Watch USAF Thunderbirds and airshow festivities
- Anchor out or grab slip in Hammond for the night
- Cruise home the next day.
- Think of this as a good test for the Round About Romp which starts the following weekend!
Details:
On Saturday, the plan is to race down to Ogden Dunes/Gary to watch the airshow, anchor out, and sail back the following day. We will meet at the 400 dock as usual @ 9am and do a start at 10am. Channel 71 for communications on the water. Please feel free to join us even if you don’t want to race. Just come with us and have fun! This will be a great opportunity to shake out any kinks prior to the Roundabout Romp Cruise starting the next weekend. That’s what I’m using for. Here’s the plan:
1. Virtual Start line.
2. Course: Approximately 13nm along the south shore of Lake Michigan to just past the Cleveland Cliffs Steel Mill.
3. Virtual Finish: Burns Waterway West Pier Light
4. Airshow Viewing and Anchorage
5. Cruise home: Once you are done viewing the airshow on Sunday, feel free to head back to MC anytime.
6. Current Weather Report: The Weather is looking ideal for this event. Wind is expected to be around 10 out of the South for several days before and after which will make this anchorage perfect for an overnight stay and the lake will be flat for us. I’ve stayed here before, and it was quite comfortable. Easy anchoring in sand all along the Ogden Dunes beach.
